Learning Objectives

  1. Review and interpret the neurobiology underlying normal fear Vs. pathological anxiety and how it can be translated into day-to-day clinical practice.
  2. Explain and interpret the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for anxiety disorders.
  3. Identify the unique presentation of normal worries Vs. pathological anxiety across the lifespan. 
  4. Identify the appropriate screening questions to ensure a patient is correctly diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. 
  5. Critique common misconceptions regarding pharmacological treatment of anxiety, including initiation, dose optimization and appropriate monitoring.
